Day 10 - Saturday 8th December 2012

I've left it far longer than I intended since my last hike. This was a brisk afternoon walk in the breeze and cold sun. Imagine my surprise when, in the early afternoon whilst walking along the top, a butterfly flew by - in December! It's by far the latest in the year I've ever seen one flying. At first sight, though very brief, it seemed it was a variety of fritillary, then an even poorer view suggested a small tortoiseshell. Either way - amazing.

Day 9 - Thursday 2nd August 2012

Two full moons since my last hike here. I was hoping for some evening photographs with the rising full moon but was thwarted by the cloud remaining after the daytime rain. Not many people about - I'm guessing that many are glued to the TV watching the Olympics.

Day 8 - Tuesday 4th June 2012

It's been eight weeks since my last day on the Malverns.
This walk was during the evening and early night.
The beacon for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee on the Worcestershire Beacon was the spur to get out again.
It's not too often you see a couple of thousand people on the Malverns, at night!

Day 7 - Tuesday 10th April 2012

Started from Hollybush with a loop up and beyond The Gullet.
Then, for the first time, hiked the southern end of the Malverns south of Hollybush.
Despite the April showers we managed to miss it all bar a few spots of light hail on a couple of brief occasions.

Day 6 - Monday 26th March 2012

Began hiking from the North car park about 30 minutes before sunrise. The start of a glorious spring morning. I don't take the start of spring as a date in the calendar or when the temperature reaches a certain level, no, for me it's when the first of the spring migrants arrive from Africa. Today there were several Chiffchaffs singing on the wooded north and east slopes.
So, it's spring.

Day 1 - Friday 27th January 2012

Arriving at British Camp car park 45 minutes before sunrise on a crisp clear morning the conditions were promising for early light pictures - though a few more clouds would have been very welcome.
